It has become a common trend for residents of Zone 6, Wuse 2, especially ladies to be attacked by hoodlums, who attempt to snatch their bags even in broad daylight.

These hoodlums lurk around to steal from people walking the streets. The victims are often threatened with knives or other weapons and sometimes physically attacked if they refuse to cooperate.  Recently, on Yaounde Street in Wuse, Zone 6, a young woman was attacked around 11am. A man attempted to snatch her bag from her, but she put up a fight and with the help of passersby, the attacker left her and ran away.   The most unfortunate part of this development is that since these attacks have been going-on, nobody has been arrested and punished. The lives of people in those areas are in danger and something needs to be done about the matter urgently.

The situation is worse at night, especially with the epileptic power supply. The attackers hide under the cover of darkness to terrorize residents. Some even go as far as jumping over fences into houses. Efforts should be made to check these robbers. I urge the Inspector General of Police to deploy patrol teams to those areas. Apart from night patrols, security operatives should also be seen around those areas during the day. The same should be  done in other parts of the Federal Capital Territory to ensure safety of lives and property of all residents.
