As part of efforts to deepen its impact in the local communities across Nigeria in line with its commitment to sustainability and social impact, IHS Nigeria Limited, Nigeria’s leading communications infrastructure service provider had mobilised pupils across five Nigerian States to celebrate the 2025 International Volunteers Day.

Speaking at the Lagos center of the event which held at Obele Community High School, Surulere, Titilope Oguntuga, the Sustainability Director, IHS Nigeria Limited, noted that the International Volunteers Day Celebration organised by IHS Nigeria was meant to catch the school children young, preparing them for the act of community development and social responsibility.

Similar student convergence was held in Abuja, Enugu, Kano and Oyo States. According to the organisers, the aim was not only to celebrate the International Volunteers’ Day, but to also imbibe in them the culture and act of selfless service, communal living and community ambassadorship.

Commenting on IHS’ decision to mark the day with pupils, Titilope said, “At IHS Nigeria, we believe that sustainability begins with people and that strong, empowered communities are built through meaningful connections and acts of kindness. This belief continues to guide our commitment to initiatives that uplift lives, create opportunities, and inspire hope, especially among children, who represent the future we all share.”

“Today’s celebration is more than a gathering; it is an expression of love, inclusion, and encouragement. It is a reminder that every child deserves to feel valued, seen, and supported. Through today’s activities, we hope to spark joy, build confidence, and create memories that will stay with them for a long time.

“To our incredible volunteers, thank you for showing up with energy, passion, and open
hearts. Your presence embodies the spirit of service, and we are truly grateful. To the
teachers and community partners here with us, we extend our sincere appreciation for
your collaboration and for entrusting us with this opportunity to celebrate these bright young stars.

“On behalf of IHS Nigeria, I thank everyone who has made today possible. Together, we
are not just creating a fun and memorable experience; we are reinforcing the message
that every contribution matters and that when we unite for good, we can shape a future where every child has the chance to thrive.”

Earlier, Olaonipekun Kazeem, the Executive Director of Focus Teens Foundation, the implementing partner for the volunteering initiative by IHS Nigeria Limited, noted that the programme was meant to give back to the community by nurturing the future leaders in the act of selfless service, communal living and community development.

“I consider this initiative both laudable and timely, especially given IHS Nigeria Limited’s positive impact across various communities globally. Programmes such as this are essential for strengthening relationships between corporate organisations and their host communities.”

“Importantly, this initiative has positioned IHS Nigeria Limited positively in the hearts and minds of the children, their parents, local government representatives, and the wider community. The uniqueness of the program is further highlighted by its simultaneous implementation across multiple States and Communities, including Lagos, Kano, Enugu, Oyo, and Abuja.

“I strongly believe that the continuity of such initiatives is vital for sustained awareness, community development, and most importantly, for nurturing community ambassadors for IHS Nigeria Limited at the grassroots level”, he said.

The event featured highly interactive, educative, informative, and entertaining activities, including a spelling bee, movie screening and review sessions, fun games, and the distribution of goodies to participants. These engagements not only enriched the learning experience of the children but also created memorable moments for them and their families.
