IHS Nigeria has handed over a newly completed recreational park to the Omole Estate community in Ikeja, Lagos State, as part of its commitment to sustainable and community-centred development.
The Omole Estate Recreational Park, located on Titilayo Adedoyin Street, Omole Phase 1, was officially commissioned in collaboration with the Omole Phase 1 Residents Association and the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK).
Speaking at the commissioning, Director of Sustainability at IHS Nigeria, Titilope Oguntuga, said the project reflected the company’s belief that infrastructure development should prioritise people and the environments in which they live.
“Although we are a telecoms infrastructure company, we believe infrastructure goes beyond connectivity and technology,” Oguntuga said, adding, “It is about people, their wellbeing and the communities they belong to. Recreational and green spaces play a critical role in promoting inclusion and healthier communities.”
She described the park as an example of collaborative, community-led development and commended the Lagos State Government for its support, noting that the project complements ongoing efforts to expand access to quality public and community spaces across the state.
Oguntuga also acknowledged LASPARK, the Omole Phase 1 Residents Association and the project delivery teams, revealing that the park was completed within four months.
“For us at IHS Nigeria, sustainability means investing in initiatives that deliver long-term value, respect the environment and respond to the real needs of communities,” she said.
Providing an overview of the project, Tolulope Oyenuga, Manager, Sustainability at IHS Nigeria, said the park was designed to promote physical activity, social interaction and accessibility.
“The facility includes sections for adults and children, a play area, improved landscaping and ramps to ensure access for persons with disabilities,” Oyenuga said, adding that sustainability considerations guided the project from conception to completion.
In a goodwill message, Temitope Okumuyide, Head of Partnership at LASPARK, said the project aligned with the agency’s mandate to create safe and healthy environments through functional parks and gardens.
Speaking on behalf of residents, Hon. Abimbola Osikoya, Chairman of the Omole Phase 1 Residents Association, described the commissioning as a significant milestone for the estate and a demonstration of effective collaboration between government, the private sector and the community.
“This park will serve as a space for relaxation, family bonding, healthy living and neighbourly interaction,” Osikoya said, assuring that the facility would be protected and responsibly maintained for the benefit of residents.
