The Ijaw Community Abuja has called called on the Nigerian youths to put an end to the ongoing nationwide protest.

The group noted that the call has become imperative in order to halt further destruction of lives and property that characterized day one of the processions, which it said was hijacked by hoodlums in many parts of the country.

Addressing newsmen under the aegis of Ijaw Youth Council Abuja and Coalition of Niger Delta groups with theme: “South South says no to planned national protest”, the Chairman of the group, Alagba Ebifemowei, insisted that the protest must end now to avoid further loss of lives and property.

Advising the aggrieved youths to advantage of dialogue offered by the government, Ebifemowei said President Bola Tinubu was committed will give necessary directive to effect the demands of the protesters.

According to him, “We are also aware that the government has been in dialogue with the leadership of the protesters to give peace a chance and have a rethink as the government understands the plight of the people and have resolved to find a lasting solution to their demands.

“Mr. President has reassured us of his commitment and gave directives to effect the demands of the protesters.

“We as a coalition of Niger Delta groups also lend our voices to give the government a little more time.

“The Niger Delta region is most volatile in the country and our leaders from the region have spoken to us and Asked for calm and we chose to remain calm, because the Presidential Amnesty Programme is on course ably led by Chief Dennis Otuaro and has also pleaded with the Niger Deltans to remain calm.

“The honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Rt. Hon. Heineken Lokpobiri is working assiduously for the oil sector to be stable for the benefit of the country in general.

“The newly appointed Head of Service of the federation, HoF, Mrs. Didi Walson Jack is also working to ensure that the civil service is properly put in shape for effective and efficient service delivery.

“To achieve this goal, we must enjoy peace and stability because it is the cornerstone upon which we build trust, cooperation and share purpose. When peace reigns, policies yield results , businesses thrive, investments flourish and creativity is unleashed.”
