The development came, even as traditional rulers in the state are enjoined to stay away from politics in order to preserve the dignity and respect for traditional institution, which allegedly is playing itself out on the Ijebu Ife crises.

A member of the Ijebu East council of traditional rulers, the Sapenuwa of Ogbereland, Oba Michael Orelaja,made these disclosures in a chat with Oodua Trust at his palace at Ogbere. According to him, an eight-member committee had been set up to come up with how they would support the victims. Oba Orelaja said that the support would go a long way in ameliorating the loss of the victims.

“It is meant to cushion the effect of the loss. It is very painful that this is happening, but since it has happened we have to think of what we can do. At the last meeting held at the council secretariat, an eight-member committee was set up to raise fund for the victims. And this shall be done very soon,” the monarch said.

Oba Orelaja, while reacting to the crisis affirmed that from reports at his disposal, “it was purely a matter between the vigilante group and the youth. The problem with vigilante is too much that was why I stopped it here at Ogbere. For some people to now say it is politics is therefore unfortunate,” the monarch, who also had some of the displaced residents from Ijebu Ife in his palace, said.
