Ikorodu City’s Head Coach, Ali Kandil, has expressed confidence that the ‘Oga Boys’ will build on last season’s impressive showing to secure a continental ticket at the end of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The Lagos side played out a goalless draw with El Kanemi Warriors in their Week Two clash at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, over the weekend. Despite failing to snatch a win, Kandil said he was not discouraged by the result.

“We made enough chances to win, but the game showed that we need to be more precise. The boys played hard, and we will keep improving,” he said.

The coach stressed that the team is still evolving and will soon meet the expectations of the club’s owners.

“We don’t want to get carried away by the results we got last season. We want to do well in the league, cement our spot. And from there, we can aim higher, hopefully, in the coming games,” Kandil added.

He also hinted at a bigger ambition for the Oga Boys.

Meanwhile, in the transfer market, Jonah James has completed a move to NPFL side Shooting Stars, sealing a two-year deal after leaving Libyan club Al-Najim Al-Rifi.

The move is seen as a significant step in James’ career, as he prepares to showcase his striking prowess in Nigeria’s top flight.

Shooting Stars fans will be eager to see him in action when he is expected to debut in the Southern derby against Ikorodu City this weekend.
