Ikorodu City turned on the style in front of their home crowd on Thursday evening, dismantling Katsina United 6-0 in a dazzling display of attacking football at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena — the biggest victory of the current NPFL season.
The floodgates opened early, with right-back Waliu Ojetoye making a surging run down the flank in the 13th minute before delivering a low cross that Emmanuel Solomon tucked away with precision to open the scoring.
Solomon turned provider in the 36th minute, slipping a perfectly weighted pass into the box for Shola Adelani, who rose highest to head home Ikorodu’s second and put the hosts firmly in control.
After the break, Ikorodu City showed no signs of easing off. Ayomide Cole left his marker for dead in the 55th minute and squared unselfishly for Tosin, who calmly slotted in the third goal of the evening.
Cole soon added his name to the scoresheet, latching onto another inch-perfect cross from the industrious Waliu in the 71st minute to make it 4-0. The full-back, who was a constant threat throughout, wasn’t done yet.
In the 81st minute, substitute Oladimeji Dada marked his debut goal for the club with a composed back-post finish — Waliu again the architect with his third assist of the match.
That feat makes him only the second Ikorodu City player to register a hat-trick of assists in an NPFL game this season, joining Harrison Uzondu, who achieved the same against Lobi Stars.
Cole then capped off a sensational individual performance in the 86th minute with a thunderous long-range strike, sealing his brace and putting an exclamation mark on a truly ruthless performance.
The emphatic win delighted the home supporters and propelled Ikorodu City to fourth on the NPFL table with 49 points from 32 matches. They’ve now overtaken Shooting Stars and sit just one point adrift of third-placed Abia Warriors, firmly back in the race for a top-three finish.
With this result, Ikorodu City also became the first team to score six goals in a single NPFL match since Rivers United’s 6-0 demolition of Gombe United in June 2024 — a reminder of just how dominant they were on the night.
