Operatives repel attack on Ikoyi prison

The Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Centre has confirmed hoodlums launched an attacks on its facility in Ikoyi.

Public Relations Officer, of the Lagos State Command, Superintendent of Prisons, Rotimi Oladokun, told Daily Trust on phone, “Yes, there was an incident at Ikoyi correctional Centre. The situation is now under control. We are presently carrying out mop-up exercise to ascertain the extent. That is how far it is for now.”

Armed hoodlums attempted to break into the facility at Ikoyi, but were repelled by a combined team of security operatives.

A video Daily Trust has seen from the neighbourhood of the prison shows smoke billowing from the correctional centre while inmates scamper

It comes days after a jailbreak released more than a thousand inmates from two prisons in Edo state.

The incidents come amidst growing concern related to the ENDSARS movement, which has seen violent attacks in parts of the country.
