Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has promised the leadership of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to ensure the completion of the state chapter of NLC secretariat in Umuahia.
He, on behalf of the state government, donated N10 million and promised a personal donation of N2 million every month until the end of 2017 to ensure the completion of the building.
Ikpeazu gave this donation while performing the foundation laying of the secretariat in Umuahia recently.
Also Speaking, NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, said it was unfortunate that despite the bailout given to states by the federal government and the refund of the Paris Club made available to states, some governors had refused to settle arrears of salaries and pensions they owed workers.
He advised governors to stop seeing workers as a liability but as partners in the delivery of good governance to the people.
Wabba said the union took a resolution at the National Executive Council meeting held in Sokoto State that where members and state councils perceived they were not being carried along or the Paris Club fund was perceived to have been diverted, they should embark on protest and the secretariat would be there to back them.
