The Institute of Law Research and Development of the United Nations (ILAWDUN) has officially confirmed the appointment of Nigerian-born Professor Cyprian F. Edward-Ekpo as its substantive Director General, signaling a new chapter in the leadership of one of the world’s most respected international legal institutions.
The appointment, ratified by a board resolution on October 7, 2023, follows a successful probationary period that began in 2022. Professor Edward-Ekpo had been serving in an acting capacity, guiding the Institute through a transformative phase of strategic growth, international expansion, and operational consolidation. His official confirmation letter, dated August 19, 2024, retroactively affirms his role from the October 2023 board decision.
Established in 2012 and formally registered under Title 29 of the Washington, D.C. Code in 2022, ILAWDUN has steadily built a global reputation as a leading authority in international law, legal education, policy research, and development.
