A global labour group with headquarters in Calabar Nigeria, the International Labour Fellowship (ILF), has proposed to establish a multipurpose trade centre in Nigeria.

President of the group, Christ Ambassador Mercy Uteh made the announcement during preparation to flag off this year’s anniversary celebration of the faith based organisation in Calabar. Uteh, a former top cop, also said that the centre will also serve as an industrial training, counseling and job placement facilitating office to further create training opportunities for Nigerian youths and graduates to acquire specialised skills and training.

“We want to establish a trade center in Nigeria where people can come for skills acquisition on carpentry, hairdressing and fashion designing, etc. We want to see our teeming youths fend for themselves. In today’s society, university degrees without skills no longer sell,” she stressed.

Uteh said even though they are an international group working to promote labour issues, they were focusing on Nigeria because of her vast population and opportunities available for youths.

She said they have created a data base of young graduates to enable them easily link them to blue chip and other international firms within and without Nigeria.

“Between 2013 and now, we have facilitated the employment of 60 Nigerians in Federal parastatals, Ministries and reputable companies. We have counseled young graduates on how to be ready for job placements,” she said
