Lanre Bankole, the new Commissioner of Police (CP) in Ogun State, on Thursday, assumed office with the vow to make it “the safest state in Nigeria.”

CP Bankole replaced Edward Ajogun who retired last Friday upon clocking 60 years of age.

The new CP, a graduate of English from the University of Lagos (Unilag) hails from Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State.

He joined the police as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in March, 1990, and has worked in various capacities in different parts of the country such as Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Ogun, as well as the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) Police Command.

Speaking with newsmen, CP Bankole also promised to tackle the “peculiar case” in Ijebu-Ode where robbery threats have forced bankers to close operations in the last two weeks.

He said, “We have a vision and that vision is to make Ogun the safest or at least the safest state in the country in terms of security.

“We will also to tackle the peculiar crisis in Ijebu-Ode axis and where there are grey areas we will make sure that those grey areas are cleared up to make sure life returns to normalcy in Ijebu-Ode.”

CP Bankole, therefore, called on the public to partner with the security agencies towards ensuring safety of lives and property.
