Counterfeit dettol products worth over seventeen million naira (N17m) was on Thursday destroyed by the Kano state police command on the order of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano.
13 bags of substance suspected to be cannabis worth N6.5m confiscated by the police were also destroyed.
Police spokesman, DSP Magaji Musa Majia who led team of policemen to destroy the items warned dealers and those indulged in hard drugs to desist forthwith saying the command would not hesitate to deal with them ruthlessly.
According to Majia, over 1296 cartons of the fake dettol soap and liquid disinfectant was smuggled into the state from Pakistan.
He said that the fake dettol were confiscated at various shops at sabongari market following a tip-off in November 2016.
A representative of Rechitt Benchiser Mr. Yakubu Joel said that three persons were arrested in connection with the consignment.
Yakubu told reporters that in November 2016, some people smuggled the fake and substandard liquid dettol disinfectant without the knowledge and consent of the regulatory authorities which bears no NAFDAC registration number.
He said that company which has been existing for over 150years laid the complain to the relevant authorities and without delay a raid was carried out where those consignments were confiscated.
Magaji further explained that the cannabis were impounded in various criminal hideouts in the metropolis between January and February as such 16 suspects are so far been prosecuted in connection with the impounded illicit drugs.
