Being an actor is a dream of many as the career holds many opportunities and the fame is an addiction many are willing to chance. But beneath the glamour and glitz that surrounds the life of an actor are some prices to pay. One is the private life gone with the wind. Another, is being seen as a worldly person with a touch of promiscuity in the DNA. But According to a Nigerian actor based in Malaysia, Igbokwe Chika Johnson being an actor does mean you are promiscuous.
According to him, being promiscuous is a matter of choice and a thing of the mind. In a recent interview he reveals the kind of man he is.
“Being promiscuous is a thing of the mind. Actors may be the usual culprits in this matter but some actors, male and female have been clean. They have proven it is not a disease common to the profession. As for me, I am a one-woman kind of person, the value of family is very important to me. I have never been enchanted with dating several women. Yes, being an actor opens up the window into the world of promiscuity but like I said earlier, it is a thing of the mind and not an industry thing exclusive to actors,” he said.
Igbokwe also stated that he cannot take up a role that entails going nude before the camera, citing his reasons and affirming he might even include the clause in his contract.
“Sincerely, going nude is my limitation. I can never go nude in a movie. I’m an African man with certain values and beliefs and going nude to express a character or to pass any message of sorts is going overboard for me. Thankfully, Asian films don’t have many portrayals of nude scenes. I can even go as far as adding clauses in my contract that guarantee no nudity would be asked of me,” he said.
Igbokwe Chika Johnson has made a name for himself in Malaysia and indeed in the Asian countries, having filmed and done commercials in Indonesia, Japan and India. But he is yet to record a caper in the Nigerian movie industry and he’s seriously looking in the direction towards home.
“The Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, is making waves around the world and I would love to be a part of that. I have not been able to work with anyone yet from the Nigerian entertainment industry but I am looking forward to that really soon. I have been talking to a few directors and producers, something great is coming really soon,” he said.
My biggest goal is to work with some great directors in Nollywood, setting up my own model agency company which I am actually doing as a freelancer, and having my own gym houses as well,” he said.
On the question of working in Malaysia as a black man, Igbokwe remarked that the experience has been good for him as he has integrated seamlessly into the culture even though the roles he plays are in English and not Malay as one may have expected.
“I am blessed to be a black man. I always thank God for that. Living here in Malaysia has been great, it’s my second home and I love it here and all the people I have met see me beyond the color of my skin. Personally for me, we are all human beings and live under the same sky, no matter your skin color,” he declares.
Igbokwe Chika Johnson is also a model, fitness instructor and a modeling agent.
