Imams flay pastor’s attack on Oyo Islamic cleric

The League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State has condemned the alleged attack on Ustaz Sulaiman Abdul Azeez and his family members by Pastor Busari Stephen and his associates in Iseyin, Oyo State. The incident reportedly occurred on June 16, during the Eidel Kabir celebration.

Pastor Stephen allegedly hired soldiers to assault AbdulAzeez, his wives, and family members. In response, the Oyo State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has sanctioned Pastor Stephen and instructed him to relocate his church.

Sheikh Sikirullahi Babalola, the grand chief of the League of Imams, issued a statement denouncing the attack as a “targeted aggression and violence against Sulaiman and the Muslim community in Iseyin.” He mentioned that this was not the first incident, noting that AbdulAzeez was attacked last December by individuals dressed in Nigerian Army uniforms allegedly at the behest of Pastor Stephen.

The League of Imams called on authorities at all levels to take immediate and decisive action against what they termed “impunity” to ensure justice for Ustaz AbdulAzeez and his family. The statement emphasized the need to address such acts of violence promptly to maintain peace and harmony within the community.

“This is the only way to expunge impunity from our national psyche. The perpetrators of such an act should be fished out and brought to justice without delay. Such acts of violence and intimidation are wicked, inhuman and callous, unacceptable and must be addressed promptly to maintain the prevailing peace and harmony in our communities,” the statement read.
