Barnabas Imenger snr made a name playing football for clubs like BBL Hawks of Makurdi, BCC Lions, El-Kanemi Warriors before he moved abroad to lace his boots for clubs like Al-Gadisiyah Sporting Club of Saudi Arabia, Arab Contractors in Egypt, and FC Zurich in Switzerland. Speaking to Fever Pitch, on his career and future ambition, the junior Imenger said it would be hard to surpass his father’s record in football but going by the fact that he has age on his side, he hopes to surpass or at least equal what his dad achieved in his playing days.
Nanen said God has deposited in him the same amount of skills which he gave to his father and so he would put his God given talent to good use as he continues to pray for injury free career.
“Football fans are already comparing me with my father who played for Super Eagles. Although it is my dream to surpass his records in the game, it is for God to decide. I know it is a tough task but with God all things are possible.
“All I pray for is protection that comes from God who has endowed me with this talent. If my career is not cut short by any serious injury, I hope to one day play professional football abroad and also play for the Super Eagles.
The Kwara United youngster who has five goals in the Nigeria Premier League to his credit expressed satisfaction with his performance as he said this is just his first season in the top flight.
“This is just my first season in the premier League but I have not fared badly. I have scored five goals which should excite any young player. However, I am not allowing this success to get into my head. My target is to attract the attention of the national teams’ handlers”.
Nanen who is a favourite among followers of the Nigeria Premier League due to his bravery and skills has already set his eyes on the next football season as he said if he remains in the domestic league, he would give the Golden Boot Award a hot chase.
“I am already looking forward to the next season. I used this present one to gain the required experience. If I can score five goals in my first season, then I have no doubt in my mind that come next year, if I am still around, I would be among the serious contenders for the highest goals scorers’ award”.
