The International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION), established by the Nigerian Navy, has announced a three-day executive programme on Nigeria’s Blue Economy Policy, bringing together leading experts in the maritime sector.

The programme will feature a distinguished faculty, including renowned academic Prof. Comfort Etok; former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Mfon Usoro; and immediate past President of the Nigerian Maritime Law Association, Funke Agbor.

In a statement, the Director General of IMION, Thaddeus Udofia, said the high-level training is part of the institute’s ongoing executive training series on the blue economy.

The upcoming edition is scheduled to hold from April 15 to 17, 2026, at the IMION Auditorium, NNS QUORRA, Harbour Road, Apapa, Lagos.

Udofia noted that the programme is designed to deepen capacity and enhance policy understanding across Nigeria’s maritime and ocean economy ecosystem.

Participants will be exposed to a comprehensive curriculum covering the fundamentals of the blue economy, Nigeria’s policy and regulatory framework, priority sectors, and investment opportunities.

It will also examine key policy challenges, as well as sustainability and governance imperatives, culminating in a capstone session focused on developing a Strategic Policy Implementation Brief.

According to the organisers, the initiative targets a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including government officials, policymakers, civil society advocates, and professionals in ports, logistics, tourism, fisheries, and aquaculture. Academics, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and development partners are also expected to benefit from the training.

The IMION Director General emphasised that the calibre of facilitators underscores the institute’s commitment to delivering practical, policy-driven insights capable of advancing Nigeria’s blue economy agenda, particularly as the country intensifies efforts to harness the full potential of its marine resources.

Participation fees have been set at N150,000 for physical attendance and N100,000 for virtual participation, with registration available through designated online platforms.

Udofia urged maritime professionals and other stakeholders to take advantage of the programme to enhance their expertise, engage with industry leaders, and contribute to building a sustainable and competitive blue economy in Nigeria.
