Imo state Indigenes in Kano have commenced an annual education scholarship scheme for indigent children in the state.

Speaking during the flag-off of the scheme, President of the Imo State Indigenes Association, Comrade Damian Ayanwu said the decision to commence the scholarship scheme was the belief that education is the best legacy to be given to the future generation.

“The challenge of developing a better society is dependent on the provision of a qualitative education to indigent children,” Ayanwu said.

He urged communities across the country to compliment government efforts by donating funds to support the acquisition of quality education by indigent persons.

The chairman of the occasion, Chief Donatus Nwogu, tasked members of the association to ensure continuity of the programme.

Kano Chronicle gathered that the scholarship award, which commenced on a modest note with three indigent children as beneficiaries, covers tuition fees, uniform and acquisition of study materials.
