The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo has embarked on a one-week warning strike over the termination of appointments of 27 lecturers and putting 27 others on ‘redundancy list’ by the school authority.
The ASUP Chairman, Comrade Desmond Echeta, told Daily Trust in Owerri on Tuesday that the illegal termination of the appointments of the lecturers was among other six reasons for the seven days strike.
Other reasons were continuous stay of contract staff and non-payment of April and May salaries of workers.
The Public Relations Officer of the school, Comrade Darlington Oparaocha said the lecturers were sacked based on the report of the panel of enquiries on staff audit.
