Imo majority leader, Ogbuagu, impeached

The simmering cold war in  the Imo State House of Assembly blew into the open on Thursday with the impeachment of its majority leader,  Uche Ogbuagu.

He was impeached by a majority vote during Thursday’s plenary which held under tight security.

The assembly’s speaker Paul Emezim, announced the impeachment.

Ogbuagu, representing Ikeduru State Constituency, was elected under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), but defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His defection, which came shortly after Emeka Ihedioha was removed as governor in January 2020 by the Supreme Court, was to enable him emerge as principal officer of the house.

Since then, he’s been in constant disagreement with some principal officers of the assembly.
