Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, stated this, yesterday, while receiving the delegation from Nigerian Erosion Water Shade Management Project in his office in Owerri.
He disclosed that the government has concluded arrangement for the release of N300 million counterpart funds to enable the body tackle erosion problems in the state, especially in the present season.
He appealed to the delegation members to consider other erosion sites apart from Urualla, Iheoma and Eziala, Obizi in Ezinihitte Mbaise as they begun work.
Prince Madumere harped on the need to check ecological problems of the state, saying they posed serious socio-political and economic threats to communities and states.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Petroleum and Environment, Prof. Okey Okoro, thanked the Rochas Okorocha-led Rescue Mission for release of its counterpart fund, describing the gesture as a demonstration of love for the citizenry.
Briefing the Deputy Governor earlier, the leader of the delegation, Dr. Amos Abu, said they were in the state to consolidate on their partnership with the government in tackling erosion menace in the state.
While thanking state government for its positive disposition, he appealed for the timely release of the counterpart fund to enable them begin their function.
