The water project which was executed under Public Private Partnership (PPP) is valued at N5.5 billion.
Governor Imoke, while performing the commissioning, said it was to ensure potable water for its citizenry in the state.
Imoke said: “With the assistance of the World Bank, there was need to get water to Ikom within the shortest possible time to fulfil my promise.
“Ikom is one of the fastest growing towns in Cross River, because of the many economic activities going on here and we must put a step ahead or it will suffer due to congestion”.
According to the governor, the second phase of the water project which is ongoing would be extended to Okuni, Edor and Effraya.
Imoke thanked the people of Ikom for their patience,urging them to protect and maintain the facility.
 He added that the company will not only reticulate water, but will also be in charge of billing and repairs of facilities to ensure that money expended on it was recovered.
He said: “Under PPP, nothing breaks down as there is more efficient water supply and it will go a long way to urbanise the area and also ensure that it meets minimum infrastructure and assessment.”
Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Elemi Etowa, described the project as the fastest way of providing potable water to the town and adjoining communities which had, before now, faced acute water shortage, adding that the overall plan was to provide Cross River people with potable water.
