Impeachment: Panel Commences Sitting Under Heavy Security in Yola

The panel set up  to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Nyako and his deputy, Bala Ngilari commenced sitting in Yola today under heavy security.

Soldiers and armed police men were stationed in and outside the hotel.

Members of the panel converged at a hotel, &J Holiday Villa in Yola early morning and journalists were prevented access to the members who were said to be  holding a closed door meeting.

The inauguration of the 7 man panel scheduled for Monday did not hold due to a sudden two day holiday announced by government on Sunday but the Chief Registrar of the Adamawa High Court, Abubakar Babayola said inauguration is not a requirement for the committee to commence its assignment.

The Director of Press, Adamawa Government House, Ahmad Sajoh said government would challenge the impeachment process in court, saying both the Assembly and the Chief Judge have violated the law.

“ We are challenging the process, the CJ who defied himself and the House of Asssembly members who defiled court order”, he stated.
