Aliegba who spoke to our correspondent in Makurdi, noted that the problem of improper refuse dump is being compounded by residents who dispose waste indiscriminately.
“Waste dump is a challenge to us [state government], worst still, people don’t have refuse collector in their houses,” he said.
He, however, lamented  that the sanitation binding laws are so weak to effect the needed change in the society as most times offenders get away unpunished after they were apprehended.
He called for attitudinal change among people of the state with particular plea to Makurdi residents to keep their environment tidy for a healthy living devoid of contagious diseases.
The commisioner also intimated that the ministry is putting together a programme of sanitation to clean up the entire state and to ensure that the environs remain clean at all times.
According to him, the comprehensive sanitation programme which would soon be unveiled, was conceived after a delegation from the state undertook a study of the success recorded by the Akwa Ibom State Government in refuse collection and disposal.
To this end, Aliegba urged residents in the state to maintain a healthy environment, warning that lack of proper sanitation could cause erosion in muddy areas as a result of carelessness.
