In defence of Governor Matawalle

Gov Matawalle of Zamfara

There have been so much criticisms of the recent decision by the Zamfara State government to assist its citizens to acquire guns to protect themselves against attacks by bandits

In my own opinion, Governor Matawalle has no other option than to allow the masses to protect themselves from terrorists’ brutal invasions since their government is unfortunately incapable of guaranteeing their security.

Even the federal government had declared those cold-blooded bandits as terrorists last year, titled, “Terrorism (prevention) Proscription Order Notice, 2021”.

I agree with the argument  that permitting Nigerians, to own guns for safeguarding themselves may be  tantamount to opening a pandora’s box. This is because some people may use them for other criminal purposes.

I am convinced that the governor is well aware that giving permission to pessimistic youths and deeply distressed people, whose farms are now being hijacked by cold-blooded terrorists, will undoubtedly open a can of worms.

Governor Matawalle’s move is a challenge to the federal government to act and tame these marauders.

The action of the governor also shows how concerned he is with the situation his people found themselves in, especially farmers who are afraid of returning to their farms.

Let me advise that the upcoming 2023 general elections should not distract the federal government from safeguarding the lives and farmlands of her helpless citizens in the northwestern part of the country as guaranteeing their security is much better than the 2023 elections. Insecurity anywhere is indeed a threat to security everywhere.
