My names are Solomon Abraham. I hail from Kogi State. I am the Head Boy of FOSLA Academy in Karshi Abuja. I am presently in JSS 2.
How happy are you to be the Head Boy of the Academy?
I feel really happy. I am not the most important student but as the Head Boy, I lead my school and team mates in carrying out activities. It is a great privilege to be a student of the academy. I feel honoured to be among the scholarship students. I am very grateful to God.
Do you have words of appreciation for the proprietor of the academy?
I want to say a big thanks to our daddy, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi. I pray to God to bless him and continue to strengthen him so that he will continue to support us. I pray to God for his life so that he will see the end of what he has started.
The football team of FOSLA Academy has not lost a single match. What is the secret of your success?
It is because we are like one big family. We do everything in unity. If people come together and there is no unity, they cannot succeed. For instance, if two players have misunderstanding and they meet on the field, they won’t like to pass the ball to each other. But with our unity and love, we don’t deny one another the passes. We are one family doing everything in love and unity.
What do you hope to be in future?
I want to actualise God’s plan for me. I want to be a great footballer and to go far in my education. By the special grace of God, I will successfully combine education with football. I want to play for Nigeria when I grow up.
There are other games like handball, table tennis and basketball. Why do you settle for football?
I like football so much. I dream football, eat and live football. I fell in love with football right from when I was very small. I have been told by my parents that even when I was learning how to walk, I used to cry for football a lot. I want to go far in football.
Which means you have the blessing of your parents to play football?
Yes my parents have been most supportive. They are supporting me with all that they have. They want me to play for this country in future. As a result, they are always praying for me to succeed in my education and football.
You have just mentioned education. Have you chosen the course you want to study in high school?
I want study architecture so as to be an architect. I have chosen this field of study because I like designing. I can do well in this field. Whenever I quit football, I would like to be an architect.
Who is your role model in football?
I want to play like Iniesta. He plays for FC Barcelona. If in future I can play for Barcelona I will be very happy. I like the way they play.
In which country is FC Barcelona?
Spain of course (laughs).
Is there any Super Eagles player you like?
Yeah, even though I am an attacker, I like John Mikel Obi. I like the way he passes the ball. He is also a very strong player.
How does the school keep you people informed about developments in the game of football?
The academy has provided us with a giant television. Anytime there is a match involving Nigeria or some of the big clubs in Nigeria or Europe, we are allowed to watch. We don’t just watch like fans or spectators. We watch to learn tactics and also develop our football skills. So instead of shouting like ordinary fans, we watched and learn. We keep learning. So our TV is our second teacher in football.
Do you think the standard of FOSLA Academy can be compared with other schools in the FCT?
To be honest with you, only few schools in the FCT can compare with FOSLA Academy. In fact it is a model school that should be emulated by others. I don’t think there any other school in the FCT that has football included in its curriculum. This is a unique school and we are lucky to be learning there.
How does a normal day in FOSLA Academy go for you students?
Every week day, when we come back from school around two o’clock, we have our siesta for one hour and then go for training around 4 o’clock. After training we still go back to the class for evening prep. In FOSLA Academy, education and football are given equal attention.
What can you tell me about your family?
My father is Michael and my mother’s name is Martha. One of my brothers likes football but the other does not like playing any game.
