I am saddened to hear the news of the passing away of Bashir Liman, Daily Trust’s articulated Jos reporter.

Bashir died on Saturday in a motor accident on Ningi road, while he was traveling to his native Jama’are in Bauchi State for the Eid celebration.

The young Bashir was a geology graduate that became a freelance journalist for the Abuja-based paper. He was also said to be a staff member with the Federal Ministry of Mining and Steel, Plateau State.

As a reporter with Daily Trust, his reports were always concise and informative. His are stories that not only were accurate but also balanced in a state where the Nigerian media has repeatedly misinformed the general public on its complex happenings.

Though I have never met him in person, I have followed his work with keen interest. Mr. Bashir’s vast knowledge of the Plateau is well-captured in his reports on human stories, conflict, politics, agriculture, and the state’s economy, among others.

My heartfelt condolences go to the management of Daily Trust, the late Bashir’s family, and friends and the entire people of Jos, who have lost such a great talent.
