The recent call by the National Chairman of the Democratic People’s Congress DPC on President Muhammadu Buhari to reintroduce the concept of the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) which was so popular during his time as the Military head of state is indeed a step in the right direction given the current situation in the country.
Whoever witnessed that period will surely remember that Nigerians were so honest and orderly that time in filling stations, punctuality in offices, open defecation not allowed public smoking frowned at and even the monthly environmental sanitation was observed in all nook and crannies of the country.
The Nigerians of today are so unruly, the environment so dirty, processes and systems are abused, the nation’s laws are violated at will and at all times and corruption is on the high scale. Public officers and politicians steal money at will only to come around and spend the money recklessly leaving schools, roads, health facilities and all other public sectors in a state of despair.
Honestly WAI need to be reintroduced and the campaign pursued with all vigor. There should be dignity in labour where able bodied men and women will be engaged as sanitary officers such that all polythene bags littering the nation are cleared and recycling companies opened up to either make use of the bags or destroy them for good.
The campaign against polythene bags should be extended to all households to the extent that all family members are mobilized and sensitized that no Polythene or pure water bag enters a house and comes out of it. It should be burnt. This is the only way to save our land.
