Civil Society Organisations and the media have identified inadequate funding of Primary Healthcare Centres in Bauchi State as the major impediment to their operations.

The CSOs under the auspices of Bauchi State Accountability Mechanism (BASAM), a  Bauchi State Network for Civil Society Organisations, BASNEC  disclosed this at an advocacy and policy influencing training for CSOs and the media, recently.

The participants for the training were drawn from Bauchi, Gombe and Katsina states and organised by a non-governmental organisation, Mamaye. The organisations said inadequate funding of PHC facilities affected their operations to deliver services.

Speaking on behalf of the CSOs, Mr Ezekiel Sukumum commended the Bauchi State  for prioritising the health sector. He however called for adequate funding of PHCs. 

Also speaking, a journalist with the Bauchi State Television, Elizabeth Kah said that more needs to be done in the area of timely release of funds for the provision of functional PHCs in the state.
