The Governing Council of the Northwest University, Kano has approved the appointment of Professor Isyaku Ibrahim Indabawa as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor of the institution.
A statement from the university, signed by its Public Relation
Officer, Abdullahi Abba Hassan, said the appointment was with effect from November 16, 2016.
“The Governing Council of the university in the exercise of the powers conferred on it by the Northwest University, Law No 8 of 2012, at its 15th meeting held on Wednesday 16th November, 2016 chaired by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mallam Sule Yahaya Hamma, considered the submission from the Vice Chancellor on the election held by the Senate of the university at its 25th meeting of 27th September, 2016 and approved the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor,” said the statement.
Until his appointment, Professor Indabawa was a lecturer at the Department of Biological Science of the university.
A professor of Plant Biology, Indabawa, 49, graduated with Bachelor of Science (Applied Biology) in 1992 from Bayero University Kano (BUK).
He also obtained a Masters of Science Biology (Hydrobiology) in 1999 and bagged a PhD degree in Biology (Hydrobiology) in 2008, both from the same institution.
Indabawa joined the service of Bayero University Kano in 1993 as a graduate assistant and rose through the ranks and was elevated to the rank of Professor of Plant Biology in 2015.
Professor Indabawa held several positions in both Bayero and Northwest Universities respectively. He also served as Senior Special Adviser to the former Governor of Kano state, Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
He has been an external examiner to many institutions including Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, Federal College of Education, Katsina, Shoolini, India and University of Lagos.
The new Vice Chancellor also bagged several awards from within and outside the country including the Fulbright Scholarship award by USA among others.
