The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command, on Monday, announced diversion of traffic from areas in the nation’s capital, including Central Business District and the Eagle Square.

In a statement, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, a Superintendent of Police, said this is as a result of large crowds expected during Independence Day celebrations.

This is coming as some Nigerians are planning to use the Eagle Square for a protest.

The command also called on the residents of the territory to be vigilant and report suspicious activities ahead of the celebration.

She urged the residents to take advantage of the command’s emergency lines: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938 and 07057337653 to report suspicious activities in their surroundings.

Adeh said the command had strategically deployed adequate personnel and equipment throughout the FCT ahead of the celebration.

She said the deployment was to ensure hitch-free celebration, adding that the deployment will include Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel, anti-riot equipment, visibility policing, among others.
