Ahead of today’s Round of 16 clash between hosts Cameroon and one of the surprise teams, Comoros, Cameroonian fans have expressed their concern over the possibility of their team being bundled out of the tournament.

A goalkeeper with Coton Sports, a football club based in Garoua, Anye Derick, said he is certain of his country’s victory over Comoros but has called for caution from the Indomitable Lions.

“I am confident my country will defeat Comoros but you know anything can happen in football. I will ask my people to play with caution and not underrate these guys.

“We saw what they did during the group stage where they pulled off surprises. But I know that surprise will not be against us,” he said.

Speaking in the same vein, his club teammate, Kaniliv Daouda said Comoros should not be written off as they have nothing to lose if they are defeated.

“Comoros have nothing to lose if they are beaten as no one is expecting them to defeat Cameroon. Instead, Cameroon has everything to lose if we don’t win the match.

“Our FIFA ranking may drop and the news will be on Comoros doing the unthinkable. So, they may be underdogs but can be our dream killers whom we must be very careful with,” he said,

A Cameroonian fan who gave his name as Tumar said he has absolute confidence in the players as he said Lions will beat Comoros well.

He reiterated that the island country has no chance against Vincent Aboubakar and his team mates.

“Comoros stand no chance against our own Vincent Aboubakar. We will definitely beat them very well,” he said confidently.

Meanwhile, Comoros will be forced to start an outfield player in goal as their three goalkeepers are all absent.

First choice Salim Ben Boina is missing through injury after being stretchered off in their win over Ghana, while his understudies, Moyadh Ousseini and Ali Ahamada, have tested positive for Covid.
