Industrial court restrains c’ttee from parading as NULGE leaders

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), sitting in Abuja, has restrained members of the caretaker committee recently constituted by some members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Kaduna State from parading themselves as leaders of the union in the state.

The state secretary of the union, Comrade Terry Henry, who announced this at a news briefing at the secretariat of the union in Kaduna, said the court order has been served on the affected members.

The  court order directs members of the caretaker committee to comply with the interim judgment it  delivered on August 8, 2019, which states that “The judgment of Owerri Division of NICN, the Caretaker Committee relied upon is limited to the Imo State chapter of NULGE only and no other meaning should be imported into it.”

The court advised members of the committee to avoid any act that could translate to contempt of court as such disobedience of order of court would attract consequences.

The secretary appealed to members, who have problems to follow the advice of the national president of the union, Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel, to table their grievances before the reconciliation committee set up to handle the issue.

In another development, NULGE has lauded the decision of the Kaduna State Government to commence the implementation of the new minimum wage with effect from next month.

The State Acting President, Comrade Rayanu Isyaku Turunku, who made the commendation, said the measure would bring great relief to the workers and praised Governor Nasir el-Rufai for being among the first to take the giant stride.

He assured that the union and the entire workforce would reciprocate the gesture through enhanced performance and total support to government.
