INEC boss: Court wants A/Court’s order produced

A Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the production of the order of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which stopped its contempt proceeding against the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu

Justice Stephen Pam on Tuesday noted the absence of Yakubu’s team of lawyers in court without any explanation and held that the contempt proceeding subsists pending the service of the order of the appellate court on the court.

Justice Pam had on August 1 issued the bench warrant after Prof. Yakubu failed to turn up for the third time over the proceeding on the Anambra State PDP chairmanship dispute led by Ejike Oguebego, who accused the INEC chairman of refusal to recognize him as the party chairman in Anambra State as ordered by the Supreme Court in December 2014.

Earlier, counsel to Oguebego, Kanayo Okafor informed the court that the Court of Appeal had stopped the proceeding before it.
