The Senate has received President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to confirm Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who was re-appointed as chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Yakubu was first appointed as INEC chair on October 21, 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari. He was reappointed after his first tenure lapsed in October this year.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan read Buhari’s letter seeking Yakubu’s confirmation at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday.

Buhari urged the Senate to be expeditious in considering his request.
