I heard that the Federal Government, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and private transporters are signing a memorandum of understanding to allow the latter transport election materials to polling units during the 2019 polls.

I think it is not a good idea to contract a private agency for such a service while government has an agency that was specifically established for such activities.

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) was established to carry out courier and delivery services. If private firms can facilitate logistics services, why can’t a government-owned agency do it?

It is well known that recently, the NIPOST recruited hundreds of fresh and experienced graduates from various institutions nationwide and abroad. These people are capable of doing whatever task assigned to them, so why give their responsibilities to private organisations? Is this not a matter of self-killing and deception?

For good governance, integrity and transparency, please hand over this job to the NIPOST, which is ready to deliver all kinds of election materials, items and accessories everywhere in Nigeria, provided they are given all the necessary funds.

I hope the INEC chairman and the postmaster-general would do the right thing and at the appropriate time before it is too late.
