The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has deployed over 400 ad-hoc staff for the February 3 by-election to fill an existing vacancy in the Benue State House of Assembly.
Our correspondent reports that the existing vacancy for the seat of Guma 1 state constituency was created by Dr. Yamar Ortese who was appointed Commissioner for Health and Human Services in the state.
INEC’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the state, Terka Andya, told our correspondent in Makurdi that the commission was prepared to conduct a credible election.
Andya said, “Over 400 ad-hoc staff will be used for the exercise tomorrow (Saturday). The non sensitive materials have been sent to Gbanjimba, the headquarters of Guma LGA while other sensitive materials that are still with us will be moved to Guma any moment from now so that they can be taken to state constituency headquarters in Dauda.

“The ad-hoc staff have been trained and posting is out. As for security preparation, we had a security meeting here under the group of agency consultative on election on security. All security chiefs in the state were around and they have mapped out modalities for security architecture of the election.
“As we speak, they are still meeting at the Commissioner of Police office to finalise issues concerning security for the election.”
