INEC deregisters 3 more political parties

The affected parties are the African Renaissance Party (ARP); National Democratic Party (NDP); and National Transformation Party (NTP), according to a statement signed by INEC’s secretary Abdullahi A. Kaugama.

According to the commission, the action, which brings the number of deregistered parties to 31, is in continuation of the exercise of the powers conferred on INEC by the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2010 (As amended).

INEC said the three parties failed to meet the requirements of the constitution in the composition of their National Executive Committee (NEC), have no verifiable headquarters and have not won a seat in the National and State Assemblies

The Commission reiterates its commitment to relating with all registered Political Parties as specified by the extant laws of the land.
