INEC’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) in Borno, Mr. Tommy Magbuin, told  journalists in Maiduguri that late arrival of polling materials at polling stations and failure of the card reader machine, among others, necessitated the extension in order to give opportunity to voters in the affected places to exercise their voting right.
He said five polling units in Jere, two units in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and two in Hawul local government areas were affected.
The places where elections continued yesterday were Gwange 11 and Yerwa Secondary School polling units in MMC; Gongolong Lawani, Kaka-Yadzaram, Biriri, Ajari and Kittla in  Jere as well as Kwaya Bura 1 and Ndragina  in  Hawul Local Government Area in southern part of the state.
Magbuin, however, expressed gratitude that the presidential and parliamentary elections were held peacefully in Borno State, stressing that INEC’s decision to give opportunity to thousand of displaced people from 16 out of the 27 local government areas of the state added to the credibility of the electoral process in the state.
