Head of voter education and publicity of the commission in the state, Osaretin Imahiyereobo, who disclosed this in Jos yesterday, said the commission has so far distributed 1,508,585 permanent voters’ cards (PVCs) throughout the 17 local government areas out of the 1,693,097 that it received.
“The received PVCs represent 84.52 percent of the 2,003,046 registered voters in the state,” Imahiyereobo explained.
A breakdown of the figure of PVCs distributed to the various LGAs showed that Jos North LGA, where the highest number of voters (373,175) reside, had been given 260,718 PVCs out of the 279,628 received from INEC headquarters; while 81,693 PVCs have been distributed in Jos South which is the second largest LGA in terms of registered voters (196,546) and for which the INEC in Plateau had received 99,435 PVCs.
Jos South LGA is the home of some of Plateau State’s most prominent citizens, including Governor Jonah Jang who was yet to receive his PVC by yesterday and who has recently been canvassing for the use temporary voter card (TVC) should INEC fail to distribute all PVCs before the first set of elections on March 28.
