Following the omission of the logo of the Labour Party (LP) in the ballot papers for gubernatorial election in Borno State, INEC says it reprinted new ballot papers in order to forestall litigations that may likely trail today’s polls.

 

INEC’s residence electoral commissioner (REC) for Borno state, Samuel Madak,i told journalists that the new ballot papers would be flown to Maiduguri, stressing that those for southern part of Borno State would be taken to various LGAs after taking them  to Gombe Airport.

 

Our correspondent who went round Maiduguri this morning reports that accreditation has commenced but only ballot papers for the state house of assembly elections are available.

 

Madaki has assured that “elections will definitely hold as planned…there is no two way about it.”

 

“We have stationed one of our colleague at the INEC office here in Maiduguri and as soon as the ballot papers for the gubernatorial elections are ready, he will bring them here,” Markus Musa, an  official in one of the key polling stations said.

 

Today’s contest is between Governor Kashim Shettima of the APC who is seeking a second term and Alhaji Gambo Lawan of the PDP.

 

Nine candidates of various political parties on Thursday stepped down for Shettima.
