INEC resorts to manual accreditation in Jos’ rescheduled election

Voters were accredited manually in a rescheduled election in Ungwan Keke Polling unit 055 in Jos North local government area on Sunday morning.
The election was rescheduled because card readers failed Saturday and election officials stopped accreditation around 11.30pm and when they resumed Sunday, they accredited the voters manually as the card reader did not work.
When our reporter visited the polling unit, an election official who did not want his name in print told Daily Trust that they were able to accredit only 336 people Saturday but the remaining of over 400 voters had been accredited manually.
While in the neighboring Da Dusu Unit, voters were left stranded after waiting for hours to cast their Senatorial votes as they only cast Presidential and House of Reps, a situation that led to women holding the presiding officer to hostage Saturday evening.
The intervention of the Police calmed the situation, but this was after the Police fired tear gas which dispersed accredited voters who later returned to continue voting.
A voter at the unit, Sani Musa said there was speculation of a conspiracy to provide insufficient senatorial ballot papers to reduce the strength of the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Eunice Sambo and give the candidate of Peoples Democratic party (PDP), Governor Jonah Jang, an advantage.
