Chairman of the commission, Professor Attahiru Jega said at a press conference Saturday night that the Presidential and National Assembly elections are now rescheduled to take place on March 28, while that of governorship and state houses of Assembly will now take place on April 11, based on the provision of Section 26 (1) of the Electoral Act.The commission’s decision to shift the polls followed series of extensive meetings with the political parties, Civil Society Organisations as well as its Residents Electoral Commissioners at its office in Abuja. Ever since the National Council of State’s meeting on Thursday, where INEC was tasked to go and consult widely and adopt a decision, the nation had been thrown into anxiety and uncertainty over the possible implication of the polls delay.
