The Speakout Africa Initiative has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recruit more hands like youth corps members to assist in the distribution of the Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) since the same people are used as ad hoc staff during elections.
Its lead director, Kenneth Eze, made the call yesterday in Abuja at the official launch of the Vote Buying Disruptor (VBD).
According to him, the launch of the VBD was to dislodge proponents of the vote-buying menace from source, and make it difficult even when the electorate aided such heinous act.
He also recommended PVC collection scheduling (PCS) to INEC to ensure PVC collectors are scheduled for their collections to prevent overcrowding, disenfranchisement and ease the process at the collection centre.
“It now behoves on us to activate the office of the citizen as we kick start #65DaysOfCivicActionTo2023Election to call on all lovers of democracy, development partners, CSOs, media and international communities to prevail on INEC to salvage our democracy,” he said.
He added that the #65DaysOfCivicActionTo2023Election is centred on four grave concern areas which are inimical to the credibility of the election – vote buying, technology, polling unit security and voter suppression.
