INEC warns against circulating fake results in Bauchi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bauchi state has issued a warning against the circulation of fake election results in the state.

The state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ibrahim Abdullahi gave the warning in Bauchi on Sunday, saying that the public should disregard some results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday being circulated on social media.

Similarly, the state Head of Voter Education and Publicity, INEC, Ahmed Waziri in a statement signed on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner states that the results being posted were not announced by the Commission.

“The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Bauchi, has been drawn to the circulation of Presidential and National Assembly results on social media.

“It is on this background that the Commission is calling on the general public to ignore all such results as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is the only institution recognized by law as contained in section 27 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), to make such announcements.”
