Supply of inferior agro-chemicals and adulterated fertilisers have been identified as factors responsible for low yield of farm produce in Taraba State.
The coordinator of Fadama III project in the state, Engineer Habison Timothy Zing, stated this during a stakeholders’ meeting, organised by the project in Jalingo.
He observed that supply of quality agro-chemicals and fertilizer to farmers will produce good yields and enable farmers to make more profits.
The coordinator expressed the need for a Memorandum of Understanding between farmers and suppliers of agro chemicals to ensure that only quality farm inputs are supplied to the farmers in the state.
  Engineer Zing said if such arrangement is put in place, suppliers that defaulted will be sanctioned and made to compensate losses that might arise from application of low quality farm inputs sold to farmers.
He advised farmers to ensure proper use of agro chemicals as well as good method of harvest and preservation of farm produce.
  In his address, the Permanent Secretary in the State ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Mela Isaac, told farmers in the state to take agriculture as a serious business and embark on production of both food and cash crops.
