Initiative rates DG BPP, others high on service delivery

The Oduduwa Development Initiative (ODI) has commended the leadership of key federal agencies for what it described as “efficient and accountable service delivery,” singling out the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Addressing journalists, ODI National President, Akinyele Olasumbo, said the commendation followed an assessment tour conducted by the group to evaluate the performance, transparency, and effectiveness of selected government institutions.
“After conducting an assessment tour of some agencies to scrutinise their efficiency and effectiveness, we are proud to inform that the BPP, NIS, NSCDC, NCS and JAMB stood out in performance, humanitarian development and service delivery,” he said.
Olasumbo noted that at a time when public institutions often face criticism over “ineptitude, impunity, corruption, negligence and indiscipline,” the five agencies distinguished themselves through accountability and innovation.
“These agencies stood above board with their level of accountability, transparency, innovation and development in fulfilment of their mandate,” he added.
The ODI particularly praised the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Adebowale Adedokun, for reforms introduced since his appointment in 2024.
“Since his substantive appointment as DG, Dr Adebowale Adedokun has committed himself to reposition the agency and enhance public procurement practices in Nigeria. His vision centres around transparency, efficiency and accountability, with a strong emphasis on leveraging technology to streamline processes,” Olasumbo said.
The group also commended the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, for improvements in border management and migration systems.
“Following the extension of her appointment, Mrs Kemi Nanna Nandap has ensured significant advancement in the core mandate of the NIS, with notable improvements in border management and modernisation of immigration processes,” he stated.
Similarly, ODI lauded the leadership of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps under Ahmed Abubakar Audi, describing the agency’s role in national security as increasingly impactful.
“After his reappointment, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi has repositioned the service to play a more significant role in the country’s security architecture, complementing the efforts of the Police,” Olasumbo said.
On the Nigeria Customs Service, the group credited Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi with driving reforms that have improved operations and revenue generation.
“Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has instituted landmark reforms that have repositioned the NCS for efficient service delivery, improved community relations, and increased revenue,” he noted.
The ODI reserved special commendation for the Registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, citing integrity and transparency in the conduct of examinations and administration.
“Prof. Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede deserves special commendation for his performance, with a high level display of integrity and honesty in serving humanity,” Olasumbo said.
The group emphasised that recognising effective public service is essential to encouraging better performance across government institutions.
“Appreciating effective servitude to one’s fatherland is the adrenaline needed to encourage others, and these agencies have been affirmed as effectively efficient in their service,” he said.
Olasumbo added that ODI would continue to promote good governance and collaborate with agencies demonstrating strong performance.
“We will continue to promote good governance and synergise with agencies of government that are performing creditably well,” he said.
