The Abia State government has cautioned residents of the state against raising false alarms capable of creating panic among the citizens.

The government gave the warning while reacting to the purported invasion of communities by bandits.

It said residents of some communities, especially those in Umuahia North and Umuahia South LGAs, were frightened by the rumour of alleged invasion of their areas by strange persons who planned to attack them.

The Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, cautioned residents against raising such false alarms that could cause panic in the state.

He urged Abians to “kindly remain vigilant and not spread fake news and rumour that can create the type of panic we had last night in Umuahia area.”

The commissioner assured that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was doing his best to strengthen the security architecture of the state, to make it one of the safest in the country.

Okiyi further re-emphasised that the 8 pm to 6 am curfew imposed on Aba and Umuahia is still in effect while Umunneochi, Bende, Ohafia and Arochukwu LGAs would continue to observe the curfew from 6 pm to 6 am.

He assured that the 14th Brigade of Nigerian Army at Ohafia and the State Police Command are enforcing the curfew order.
