The founder of Al-Mustofiyya Islamic Society of Nigeria (MISN), Ustaz Maisuna M. Yahya, has urged religious leaders in the country to be God fearing and use the tenets of religion to bring the citizens to tackling the challenges facing the country.

He told Daily Trust that religious leaders should be at the front of dousing tension in the country and stop hate preaching and instigating violence.

Maisuna said, “In the past, family value was given premium such that when a child misbehaves, other people start correcting such child or children till parents took over thus discipline was a collective responsibility.

“It is disheartening that the knowledge of Islam was lost on many Muslims. This should be corrected as those committing atrocities in the name of any religion would not be knowledgeable and still be acting wrongly.

“Also, politicians are the major instigators of the crisis in the country, they should stop bad politics. It is also important that, while illegally armed men should be punished for their crimes, their sponsors and those manufacturing and engaged in the illegal sales and other activities should also be punished,” he said.
