As part of efforts to curb rising insecurity, the Okpella Kingdom in the Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State has purchased a drone to monitor the community and its environs.

The traditional ruler of Okpella Kingdom, the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, HRM Mike Sado, disclosed this while reacting to a recent inquiry by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He said in addition to the drone, which will be utilized by security agents, the community has recruited over 100 security personnel to combat crime and criminality within the kingdom. 

He noted that these personnel receive a monthly stipend to encourage them to effectively protect the area.

According to the monarch, these measures are specifically aimed at addressing the unique security challenges facing the region.

“Okpella community has been facing security challenges, but since we purchased the drone and recruited community vigilantes to help tackle crime, the situation has been changing,” he said.

The traditional ruler further revealed that the community is currently building a Police Area Command, having secured official approval to boost the permanent security presence in the area.
